He had 66pts last year, 56 of which were at 5 on 5. He got almost no powerplay time as well. He had 2.56pts/60 which was 20th in the league and behind only Pavelski on his team. Meier is extremely underpaid at 6million and Dom Luszczyszyn for The Athletic is already calling it the 6th best contract in the league today. What’s interesting about the contract is that he’s owed 10 million in salary for the last year of his contract, which will make for a high qualifying number when he’s up for RFA again in 4 years. I bet they’re viewing that contract as a 5 year deal.

There’s a reason the market is correcting and younger players who are RFA are getting some of the UFA slice of the pie. They’re more effective in today’s game.
